The Big Green Bus, that is. This is the fourth summer the bus has rolled its message out to American consumers.
12 Dartmouth Students are making a 35-state U.S. circuit in their emerald-hued bus — powered with waste vegetable oil (WVO) and outfitted with couches and bunks.
Why do they do this, you may ask? Well, it’s “all for a greener tomorrow.”
With the motto “change your fuel, change your world,” the tour promotes sustainable lifestyles and alternative energy sources. Most of all, however, it stimulates dialog around energy and environmental issues that touch each of us where we live and breathe.
Three of the students are from Northern California (Menlo Park, San Jose and San Francisco) and the Big Green Itinerary for July includes stops in Big Sur, Carmel, Los Gatos, Palo Alto, San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland.
With some A-List sponsors behind them, the crew will be teaching as well as learning - visiting campuses and alternative energy production facilities. They’ll be advocating environmental issues with elected officials and public sector representatives, as well as demonstrating by example as they live sustainably on tour.
You can follow the bus online, read their blog, and pledge sponsorship. But gee, since they’re coming all this way, why not turn out and show ‘em some support in July? And maybe bring a nice cup of waste vegetable oil to share.
